It happens in every industry. You write something or make something on your own and put your thoughts and feelings into it and then someone comes and claims your work as theirs. And only you know the truth that how much effort they had in that creative. It’s disheartening but then it’s not something we should be so upset about.
Have you heard the story of bee and honey? Hopefully, you did and if you havenβt I will tell you. Well along with it let me tell you when someone stole my work or maybe stole is not the right word but yeah took credit for something I put my thoughts and feelings into. So, it relates to the bee’s story, at least for me, it does.
There was a time, I wrote something that came to my mind and as usual, posted it on social media. I have always written things that go on my mind, that I have felt someday before or currently going through. The imagination part in my writing has started recently.
So, yes I was talking about the incident when someone copied one of the pieces that I wrote. And I got to know that through social media only. It was posted on some page with their name. Did I felt bad, yes a little but it was more like “why”? Why did it happen? I told all about it, to my best friend. And she was furious, she was like we need to do something, we need to text and ask if itβs their original or maybe I should just comment on its something. And all I did was laugh. I felt bad for few moments but after that, it felt good to me. Like I do have some qualities to get copied by someone. It encouraged me to write more often, more beautifully.
It reminded me of the story of the bee. Once there was a bee doing his daily work, making honey and storing it. Then comes a friend of the bee. She saw her working hard like every day. She was curious and asked that she works so hard and people steal her honey, then why she doesn’t do anything to protect the honey she makes, why does she let humans steal her honey? The bee looked at her friend and replied very calmly that the humans can only steal the honey she makes but not the art of making.
I feel the same; one can get the credits of someone else’s creatives but eventually cannot steal the talent. So one can copy all they want but cannot have my talent. (if I have one though)
So don’t get discouraged if something like this happens. Be proud that you are worth copying.
